Food Review : Pempek APY Jelambar, West Jakarta

When I'm home, weekend is something that everybody is waiting for. Usually, on Saturday we spent our time visiting Bandung, going to malls, and the favorite things we did was... eating outside.

Saturday and Sunday are two days for our family to (finally) not eating my mom's cook. Hahaha, it is not that her cook taste bad, no no, my mom is a good family chef. But you know sometimes people wanted to taste something different, something that we never eat on daily basis. So, weekend is our time for FOOD HUNTING!!!

Now, I'm going to review one restaurant which is not too far from our house but yet it has a historical story behind it's great taste of the food.

Okay, I must say, the restaurant is almost like 'kedai buruk'. Not a fancy-in-mall-restaurant. It is located in a housing complex, on the side of the main road which was actually a house and turned into a shoplot. The name of the restaurant is:

PEMPEK APY

What is pempek anyway? What kind of food is it?

PEMPEK is a special food coming from Palembang, South Sumatera. It is made from ikan tenggiri (fish) with tepung sagu (tapioca). Pempek is served together with a dark, rich sauce called cuka or cuko (lit. vinegar). And spicy one will be the best.

here are the variety of pempek style, pic taken from Google

Why family sooo in love with pempek?

The historical story is that our family ever stayed at Palembang, South of Sumatera. Infact, Me and my sister were born there also. I lived there until I was 4 years old. So, this food is really traditional food that everybody there must taste and like it. So, eating pempek has been an almost daily ritual for us that time.

Ok, talking about our weekend hobby again, this pempek APY became one of our favorite restaurant since it is an original branch from the one we always had at Palembang. In other cities outside Palembang, you will find a lot of pempek restaurants. But if you ever live in Palembang, or you are wong Plembang (that's what they called themself), you will know which pempek is using the original recipe. If a pempek restaurant is not owned by wong Plembang, or not a franchise of any pempek restaurant in Palembang, I bet the pempek won't taste good. Trust me.

So here's what I had at Pempek APY Restaurant:

Sorry I don't have many pictures as I didn't plan to write any review about it before.
